Nexum Delivers ROI to Energy Company with F5 Application Delivery and Web Acceleration Solution

Nexum, Inc., an F5® Expert Partner, is an information technology company providing security and networking solutions. Founded in 2002, Nexum works to ensure the security and availability of the critical business infrastructure of its clients—from the detection and prevention of network threats, intrusions, and disruptions, to ensuring clients get the best advice—in order to address real-world business issues.

Business Challenge
Nexum’s client, a FORTUNE 1000 multinational leader in the oil and gas industry, has a complex environment with five data centers across the globe, with growing traffic levels. During initial meetings, Nexum asked about their business challenges and learned that the company was experiencing major load balancing problems that its legacy Cisco equipment could not handle.

“When we talk with our clients about the problems they are experiencing, we are able to align the right solutions for them,” said David Lesser, CTO, President of Nexum, Inc. “In discussing DNS system issues, we explained the process of how F5 BIG-IP® Global Traffic Manager™ (GTM) would work, and the customer could not believe it.” As soon as Nexum’s client learned the capabilities, it was a done deal.

F5 BIG-IP® Local Traffic Manager™ (LTM) and GTM devices could:

• Help solve load balancing problems

• Work within the complex environment that had created challenges for legacy Cisco equipment

• Provide global failovers for multiple data centers

Nexum did a Proof of Concept with F5 BIG-IP GTM and BIG-IP LTM. BIG-IP GTM could also solve the client’s long-time problem with load balancing, provide global failovers for data centers, and provide Extended Content Verification (ECV) and Extended Application Verification (EAV) out of the box. Time was of the essence. The client needed a swift resolution to their traffic management issues, and within two months Nexum was delivering more than $700K worth of BIG-IP GTM and LTM devices to global locations.

In fact, Nexum only offers F5 BIG-IP LTM and GTM, because other vendors do not have the level of performance and value that F5 delivers for our clients.”

Lessons Learned
With 28 professionals who are fully-trained and certified on F5, Nexum becomes an extension of F5 for customers. “We sell and integrate around F5 iRules,™ and the ecosystem around F5,” said Lesser. Nexum makes a point of meeting with customers on a weekly basis, with technical meetings every two weeks. “We become a valuable adviser to our customers. Our clients look to us as a partner who provides honest, unbiased advice, and recommends solutions that work for them. And we have affirmed that F5 makes the best products.”

Future plans
Nexum’s relationship with the client continues to grow, as the energy company standardizes on equipment. Nexum will add two F5 BIG-IP® Application Security Manager™ (ASM) devices to the company’s data center in the near future.
